New Devil May Cry Anime Showrunner Hypes Up the Series After First Explosive Trailer

2024-09-23

Netflix's new anime adaptation of Devil May Cry has finally received a release window and an explosive new trailer. First announced back in September 2023, fans of the popular video game have been eagerly awaiting an update on the new Devil May Cry Anime and the new trailer and comments by the showrunner have only increased the excitement surrounding the release.

A new trailer for Devil May Cry was recently revealed at Netflix's Geeked Week showcase. Based on the popular video game franchise by Capcom and created by Hideki Kamiya, the series has been animated by the South Korea-based Studio Mir and is slotted for eight episodes that will air on Netflix in April 2025.

Along with the trailer's release, the series' showrunner, Adi Shankar has also further hyped up the series at the showcase. He stated that his goal wasn't just to pump out another animated show but to make one of the best shows on Netflix, showcasing the passion behind the project.

Devil May Cry Receives First Full Trailer and Release Window

Showrunner Adi Shankar Further Hypes Up the Series Ahead of Its Release

First teased back in 20218, Netflix's Devil May Cry anime has been a long time in the making, but fortunately, fans may not have to wait much longer as the series is finally ready to release in Spring 2025. Moreover, it is apparent from the showrunner's comments that the series is anything but a quick cash grab.

Rest assured, we are working very hard because we love the franchise and because we want to deliver something great. Our goal wasn’t just to pump out another animated show. My goal is to make one of the best shows on the Netflix platform — period.

Adi Shankar, the executive producer for Devil May Cry, is also best known for Castlevania, a well-received series with a loyal fanbase and it seems like the same amount of passion has also been put into Devil May Cry. His love for the franchise and the desire to do it justice as clear from his comments at the showcase, as is his excitement, which could be what ends up setting Devil May Cry apart from Netflix's many upcoming anime series.

What is Netflix's New Devil May Cry Series About?

While Devil May Cry already has quite a vast fanbase, the added exposure from Netflix means the series most certainly has the potential to attract new fans who may not be familiar with the video games. The series essentially follows an orphaned demon hunter named Dante, who can be seen in action in the newest trailer. Netflix's official synopsis for the series reads:

Sinister forces are at play at the portal between the human and demon realms. In the middle of it all is Dante, an orphaned demon hunter for hire, unaware that the fate of both worlds hangs around his neck.

Clearly, Devil May Cry shares many elements in common with some of the most popular anime at the moment, such as Solo Leveling and Demon Slayer, but Studio Mir's involvement hints that the series could be an entirely new visual experience that fans are used to.

Moreover, while Madhouse also adapted Devil May Cry into an anime way back in 2007, Netflix and Studio Mir's new upcoming version is already shaping up to be a bit different in terms of its story. The new trailer includes an interesting cameo by a character from the recent manga in the form of the White Rabbit seen towards the end. Dante's outfit is also an interesting amalgamation of elements from various versions of the game, hinting that Netflix's Devil May Cry could be the perfect encapsulation of the franchise as a whole.
